Hello everyone! How have you all been?

I wanted to do a quick check-in with you all about my month of October. For the most part, it’s been very busy and hectic for me with family matters and a busy school term. I’m currently taking Old English (which is awful, I hate learning a dead language), Scandinavian Folklore (which I thought would be more awesome than it actually is), and Chinese Buddhist Art History (which is alright but pretty similar to information I’ve learned in a lot of my other Asian art history studies) – but alas, I shall be finishing up my minor this term and getting the last major requirement for my English degree done so I just have to push through.

I also had a lot of really difficult family things going on this term, that I may or may not speak about in a post later.

As such, it’s been a slow month for me. I purchased a few books here and there, and didn’t read as much as I would’ve liked to.

Books read in October 2016:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling (reread)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling (reread)

1/2 of The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (still reading this one… like I said, slow month)

That’s also why there haven’t been many posts from me in terms of book reviews. I just haven’t really read anything, and I don’t think I’m going to be reviewing Harry Potter because at this point that’s honestly just unnecessary.

I will say, however, that as I’m reading these earlier books in the HP series, it’s really fascinating to see how perfectly plotted these stories are. I mean seriously, every little detail in these books is plot-oriented in some way. It’s truly masterful.

I’ll be trying to get back into my reread of the Harry Potter series after I finish The Raven Cycle. (Does that need to be italicized? lol). I just finished the third book and decided I was in the mood to read something for the first time, rather than continue on with a reread. But now I’m a little bit antsy to get back to the HP series, even though I’m only half through The Raven Boys. Gosh I feel crazy haha.

I think it’s because I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump this whole month, especially after my family situation. And for me personally, it can be really difficult to get out of a reading slump by reading a new book that I’m unsure of (especially if I am not enjoying that book). Rereading something I already know I love usually gets me back into reading. Not saying I’m not enjoying TRB!! It’s pretty good, I just feel a desire for the HP world right now.

ANYWAY wow this post has gotten way more ramble-y than I intended. I just feel like I’ve been away from this lovely community for so long, especially since I took about 1.5 weeks off of Bookstagram to sort myself out. I just feel like I’m playing catch-up now!
